Cypriot potato fertilized by GÜBRETAŞ

GÜBRETAŞ continues conscious agricultural practices in Northern Cyprus with the support of Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and owing to the colloboration made with Cooperative of Cyprus Agricultural Necessities. In this scope, potato harvest was held in one of the model agricultural production fields set in 2019 fall by GÜBRETAŞ.
Initial sowing was perfomed based on good agricultural practises and balanced plant nutrition programs in the model area. 7.500 kg Russet potatoes per decare were gained which is double fertile comparing to local averages of the region despite 40% less usage of bottom fertilizers.
Dursun Oğuz, Agriculture and Natural Resources Minister of Northern Cyprus Turkish Republic: Agricultural share will increase in development of our country
Dursun Oğuz, Agriculture And Natural Resources Minister of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, stated: “Reaching more agricultural production, marketing our agricultural products succesfully and gaining more income from agriculture are our main priorities to provide advantages to the development of our country. For this purpose, we support the GÜBRETAŞ and Cooperative of Cyprus Agricultural Necessities colloboration that also will improve our country’s cooperation with Turkey particularly agricultural sector”.
Minister Oğuz also said: “GÜBRETAŞ has been arranging educational meetings for Northern Cypriot farmers in our country that we really appreciate. We are very pleasant with the fertility and quality results of this model potato production area GÜBRETAŞ set to our lands. Such returns are quite promising for the agricultural growth and economical development of Northern Cyprus”.
Ibrahim Yumaklı, General Manager of GÜBRETAŞ: We reached more fertility by using less fertilizers
İbrahim Yumaklı, General Manager of GÜBRETAŞ expressed the share of agricultural export in Northern Cyprus Economy is 85% also said: “We aim to increase fertility and quality in Northern Cypriot agricultural products by using fertilizers properly and effectively. GÜBRETAŞ’ agricultural engineers have been giving education to Northern Cypriot farmers since 2017. We also supported these educations with soil analysis, plant nutrition programs and agricultural consultancy services in the country. Furthermore we took these services to another phase and set model production fields in two different places of the country coordinated with Cooperative of Cyprus Agricultural Necessities.”
Yumaklı who pointed out that they have reached very high fertility while using much less fertilizers stated: “When we started this project, we have observed that farmers use bottom fertilizers too intensively. However we decreased usage of bottom fertilizers to 112 kg, nearly one third ratio, while local average usages were 187 kg. Because we do believe that it is very significant to use fertilizers in the specific amount soil and plant require. A proper plant nutrition program was arranged according to the soil anaylsis outcomes in this land. Not only potassium, magnesium, calcium elements the plant require most in order to diversify umic acid reinforcement was applied in order to increase weak values of the soil.
Land owner Kadri Hamit: I have seen the benefits of good farming techniques
Kadri Hamit the land owner of the model potato production land expressed his gladness ands satisfaction about the results. Kadri Hamit: We met with GÜBRETAŞ team via Cooperative of Cyprus Agricultural Necessitities. We used to perform agriculture with out traditional ways so far. GÜBRETAŞ agricultural engineers firstly analyzed my soil. Afterwards they created a plant nutrition program according to my soil’s features.
Kadri Hamit also emphasized the potato qualied said: Crop quality increased remarkable as well as the fertility. Tuber weight was calculated 1.1 kgs and we harvested 7500 kgs per dacare. I suppose this fertility will reflect on the prices too. Honestly, I will be following the programs of GÜBRETAŞ in days of in my next sowings. We clearly saw it is possible to reach more crop yield, fertility and quality”.
