Zero Waste Target in Yarımca Facilities

GÜBRETAŞ, was established to increase the productivity of our country’s soil, draws attention with its environmental awareness and social responsibility activities. The company, defines its main mission as “To produce and supply plant nutrition products with sustainable growth and environmentalist approach by the responsibility of being a pioneer in the sector” also leads various projects in this field. Aiming to protect Turkey’s soil, not only Project of Turkey Soil Productivity Map and conscious agricultural educations given to farmers but also eco-friendly modern facility investments made in recent years continues with a practical approach.
Focusing on operational efficiency with GÜBRETAŞ Excellence System (GMS), which was put into practice last year at the company’s production and R&D base in Yarımca/Kocaeli city, the company moreover implemented Zero Waste plan this year. Following the acceptance of the made by completing the necessary infrastructure and trainings for the implementation in Yarımca Facilities, Zero Waste Certificate was given to GÜBRETAŞ by the Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urbanization.
In Zero Waste project published in Official Gazette in 2019; waste prevention and efficient usage of resources are targeted in order to review and minimize the causes of waste generation, and ensure recovery by recycling in case of waste.
GENERAL MANAGER YUMAKLI: “SOIL AND ENVIRONMENT ARE PARTS OF OUR MISSION”
Making an assessment on the subject, General Manager İbrahim Yumaklı said, “Towards the basic mission of our company, we attach great importance to conscious agricultural practices in order to protect the environment and soil, which are the most valuable treasure of humanity, and to increase their productivity by enriching their content aiming to transfer them to the future in a healthy way. In this context, our company constantly emphasizes that the soil should be analyzed and the plant nutrients needed should be determined correctly before planting, furthermore has been guiding the producers in this regard for years. Only we began to protect the content of the soil in farmland Turkey Soil Productivity Map Project by 13 thousands of a soil analysis of land from 81 provinces, more than 50 thousand producers have given practical training in this regard. We contribute to the protection of soil, plant, animal and human health by explaining the correct and effective fertilizer usage methods in these trainings and other activities to generalise good farming techniques”.
On the other hand reminding the modern and eco-friendly facility and infrastructure investments of GÜBRETAŞ, Yumaklı said, “NPK-2 production facilities completed in 2015 in Kocaeli is one of the most modern and eco-friendly fertilizer production facilities in Turkey. In addition, we have installed eco-friendly systems that derive from solar energy (photovoltaic) in order to meet the electricity needs of some of our facilities from renewable sources. At the same time in order to fullfill the social responsibility we possses in agricultural sector, we have set many memorial forest lands, bringing 14 thousand saplings in different provinces of Turkey”.
İbrahim Yumaklı mentioned implementation of Zero Waste system in Yarımca Facilities towards GÜBRETAŞ’s environmental and efficiency-oriented activities this year, furthermore stated, “In this context, necessary application and information studies at Yarımca Facilities in Kocaeli have been successfully completed and transition was provided. Our application to the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization was approved as a result of the inspections and we received a Zero Waste Certificate ”.
General Manager Yumaklı stated that in the upcoming period, work is underway to establish an environmentalist system that will enable the use of biodegradable wastes from the dining hall as compost and use as soil improver, and said that this project will also be included in the Zero Waste System.
