‘White Gold’ gets quite fruitful thanks to conscious agriculture
- 24/10/2018
GÜBRETAŞ shared the results of the cotton test plantation in Şanlıurfa with a field day event organized by around 450 leading farmers in the region. Thanks to the conscious agriculture and correct fertilization program applied on 20 decares of land, the yield increase of over 650 kg per decare was achieved in cotton.
With its R&D activities, GÜBRETAŞ not only develops plant and region-specific products in order to increase quality and productivity in agriculture, but also continues to contribute to the spread of conscious agriculture with its services such as model field cultivation and free agricultural consultancy.
CONSCIOUS AGRICULTURE IN 18 POINTS OF TURKEY
GÜBRETAŞ, one of the leading companies in the agricultural sector, continues to produce added value for the future of the country’s agriculture with its ”plant and region-specific” fertilizer varieties developed as a result of its R&D studies. During this product development studies conducted by the Company through Turkey Soil Productivity Map particularly since 2006 and with products developed by utilizing the data gained in the project, unlike conventional fertilizer usage, it helps each product to effectively extract all the plant nutrients it needs from the soil. Thanks to these special products developed according to the soil structure of the region and the needs of the product, high yield and quality increase are achieved.
Additionally, GÜBRETAŞ is carrying out the testing cultivation through model field application every year in different cities of Turkey to show the results of these products developed for the main agricultural plants in our country with the conscious fertilization program. In this context, the company improved its scope in 2018 and carried out its mission to spread conscious agriculture to a higher level. For various agricultural products ranging from cotton to sunflower, from nuts to olives and from rice to sugar beets, testing cultivation areas are established in 18 different points of Turkey this year.
TEST RESULTS ARE SHARED ON FIELD DAYS
In order to increase crop yield and productivity in cotton farming, GÜBRETAŞ developed cotton base fertilizers for “13.24.12” and for Super İnci, a testing farm application has been carried out since March in the field of a leading farmer in Şanlıurfa.
GÜBRETAŞ, which aims to contribute to the spread of conscious agriculture with sample studies that combine the right product with the right agricultural production, continues to share the results of these studies with the leading farmers in the region with field and garden day activities organized during the harvest period.
In the case study of cotton farming in Şanlıurfa, the plant nutrition program developed by considering the factors affecting agricultural production such as soil analysis results, land structures and climatic conditions was applied.
A Field Day event was organized to share the results of this testing cultivation with a total of 20 decares of land with cotton producers in the region. One of the landowners, Vedat Melik and TKDK (Agriculture and Rural Development Support Institution) Coordinator Sadık Yetim, Şanlıurfa Agriculture Provincial Deputy Director Halil Şıtıl, Harran Agriculture District Director Halil Aldeniz, Agriculture Faculty Dean Recep Gündoğdu, President of the Chamber of Agricultural Engineers Mehmet Saka, General Director of GÜBRETAŞ Deputy Metin Özyürek, Regional Director of Agricultural Credit Cooperatives Şanlıurfa Raif Atayık, as well as students from the agricultural faculty and officials from the cooperatives and dealers in the region and another 450 visitors attended the event.
OVER %35 YIELD IN COTTON ON AVERAGE
While the production of cotton in the world is made on a 321 million hectares during 2017/18 season according to data from the International Cotton Advisory Committee, Turkey ranks 9th in the world in terms of the cotton acreage.
In 2017, cotton farming was carried out in Turkey on a total of 5 million acres of area. While the share of Southeastern Anatolia Region in all cultivation areas is 58%, Şanlıurfa alone makes up the %42 of the total cotton production in Turkey.
In 2017, 2.2 million decares of cotton was planted in Şanlıurfa where cotton production is called “While Gold”, 1.1 million tons of cotton unseed was produced and the average cotton yield was approximately 487 kg / da.
Despite the expected decline in overall cotton yield under the influence of climatic conditions this year all across Turkey, record yield was reached in the testing area in Şanlıurfa where GÜBRETAŞ made its second plantation. According to the latest measurements in the testing area where the cotton yield of more than 650 kg per decare is expected, %35 is achieved over the average of Turkey and the region this year.
Establishing testing fields for different agricultural products in 18 different locations across Turkey, GÜBRETAŞ achieved 3 times more than the average of Turkey in hazelnut yield in Ordu and 2 times more than the average of Turkey in olive yield in Bursa-Gemlik, and achieved 20% efficiency in rough rice agriculture in Edirne and 30% in cotton agriculture in Aydin during the events previously held.
CONTINUOUS TECHNICAL SUPPORT FROM EXPERT TEAM TO MANUFACTURER
After the speeches of GÜBRETAŞ Deputy General Manager Metin Özyürek and Şanlıurfa Regional Manager of Agricultural Credit Cooperatives Raif Atayık, Harran University Faculty of Agriculture Dean Recep Gündoğdu and Faculty Member Assoc. Dr. Ali Rıza Öztürkmen delivered their speeches informing the participants about the conscious plant nutrition in agriculture.
The guests then went on to examine the record yield on site. During the field survey, GÜBRETAŞ agricultural engineer Adnan Yurum, who worked in the planning of the experiment, gave information to the participants about the studies. The manufacturers’ questions on the matter were then answered by GÜBRETAŞ agricultural engineers.
